At the turn of the last century the driveway to Ford house had an avenue of trees and this week we saw the reinstatement of this avenue. This week we have started planting 80 trees, the first of these to be planted was the new avenue of lime trees. These trees, so I'm told will have a beutiful fragrance in the spring, and can live to be one thousand years old, and won't reach maturity for 2-300 years. Imagine that, it's really awe inspiring in a way to think that we are doing something here that won't be seen at it's best for anothe 250 years! So we're feeling a sense of continuity here, it's a humbleing experience, but stragely satisfying.
The one aprehension we have is that they are vunerable to vandels and we go to bed each night worrying if they will al be intact in the morning. How we can combat vandelism no-one knows and we can only hope that they survive the first year.
